Keep the Peace

Keep the Peace : Trail Mist

We like our peace in surplus.  This leads us to yet another trail and story of the development of one of our simplest yet powerful remedies.

Considering the amount of miles that have been covered throughout this journey of all the trails taken, one thing has always been an essential in the toughest of times- peace.

This blend was created out of the simple necessity for an aromatic attitude adjustment during any outdoor activity along with a nice refreshing delivery system.  Aromatherapy and athletics has a natural connection.  This read by Well and Good has some fresh ideas for how to pair and improve your activities and performance with Essential Oils.

This blend we used prior to it receiving a proper name along many trails.  Two of the oldest and most interesting trails in all of the USA are part of this story.  Bright Angel Trail and Route 66.

Flagstaff Arizona is the funky little high altitude town in Northern Arizona that is the gateway and hub for on of the 7 natural wonders of the world, of course the Grand Canyon.

Teddy Roosevelt visited the area in 1903 and proclaimed:

"The Grand Canyon fills me with awe. It is beyond comparison- beyond description; absolutely unparalleled throughout the wide world... Let this great wonder of nature remain as it now is.  Do nothing to mar its grandeur, sublimity and loveliness."

He later in 1906 set aside the Grand Canyon Game Preserve and then declared the Grand Canyon a National Monument through his Antiquities Act in 1908.

The history of this canyon as we all know is far deeper and longer than just this snippet and it's geographic, biological, ecological and the rest of the Dam history is what makes it one of the 7 wonders of our planet.  The conservation of the area tells it's very own culturally rich and deep history. The Colorado River in Grand Canyon is a wonderful read on the subject by Larry Stevens

Traveling forward a couple decades later on November 11th, 1926 entered the "Mother Road" aka the "Main Street of America" and Americans began the roadtrips getting their kicks on route 66. Many small towns and businesses along this road flourished from the traffic that came through their towns migrating westward.  It was removed from the US Highway System in 1985 and many of the towns became ghost towns.  However it made a resurgence as a scenic byway and was named Historic Highway along several portions.

That brings us to the little funky segment of the historic Mother Road that travels through Flagstaff, Arizona and the first outdoor retailer to carry our line, Peace Surplus right on Route 66.

Their Mantra:

If It's Outdoors - It's Us!

Peace Surplus was founded in 1973 in downtown Tucson by the Chatinsky family. The store's roots were based in military surplus with an ample supply of weather balloons, parachutes, military fatigues, gurneys, ammo cans and much more. Even though we continue to carry the surplus name, the store has evolved into a full-service outdoor, camping, hiking, and backpacking store.

We love the vibe of the staff, the store and the story that Peace tells.  The community they connect and support is why they have been voted "Best in Flag" for outdoor stores since 2005 by the people of Flagstaff.  Their rental program for travelers and locals alike make it the place to be for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds.

We connected with Brad and the crew right after we launched SoulCare when Jes went rafting through the Grand Canyon for the trip with The Foundation for Blind Children

We were invited to set up shop for their first ever Ladies Night Out event and felt we had to commemorate this.  That is how Keep the Peace was created.  We have been at every Ladies Night Out since and will be welcoming winter for another one with all the lovely locals in Flagstaff on November 2nd, 2017.

Good Vibes are necessary on any trail.

This blend is for those moments when you or your trail pals need a scent or attitude adjustment.

Wild Spanish Sage will neutralize the energy and protect the good vibes.

Lively Lemongrass will perk up and cover up any stale scenario's.

Lemongrass is also a stellar bug repellent.

A dash of Almond Oil to add moisture to your skin makes for a great revival combination.

Spray directly on your face, gear or hiking pals.

A story worth sharing?  Yes, indeed.  A blend worth sharing? We certainly think so.

We got peace, in surplus.  Wine and beer and giveaways too. See you soon Mother Road and friends.
